Designed by celebrated Japanese graphic designer and sculptor Takenobu Igarashi, the TI-1 cutlery collection represents a masterclass in architectural minimalism and geometric reduction. Produced by historic metalworking house Tsubame Shinko in Niigata, Japan, the series translates Igarashi’s signature typographic precision into functional table objects.

Defined by flat, uniform rectangular handles that contrast sharply with perfectly circular spoon bowls and slim, elongated fork tines, the collection strips dining utensils down to their elemental geometric primitives. The high-mirror polish enhances the continuous stainless steel surface, creating an exceptional tactile weight and visual rhythm across the place setting. Included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the TI-1 set remains an iconic reference point for modern Japanese industrial design.
    Designer

    Takenobu Igarashi is a Japanese designer and sculptor celebrated for his pioneering work in axonometric typography, graphic design, and industrial form. After studying at Tama Art University and UCLA, Igarashi built an international reputation for his three-dimensional alphabets and graphic architectural graphics. Transitioning fully to sculpture in the 1990s, his practice across graphics, product design, and public art is unified by geometric rigor, material honesty, and spatial harmony.
