Part of Oslo-based designer Kathrine Hovind's Botanica collection, this low hand-turned platter explores soft geometry and natural pigment absorption. Shaped from locally sourced timber using traditional Norwegian woodturning techniques, the piece features a gently sloped interior dish framed by a thick, rounded lip.

The rich amber tone is achieved through natural plant and bark dyes, applying historical textile-coloring methods directly to solid wood without synthetic chemicals. The botanical pigments sink into the timber, highlighting the natural grain and fluid surface shifts carved during turning. Designed as a tabletop catch-all, centerpiece vessel, or standalone object, each piece exhibits unique tonal nuances.

Designer

Kathrine Hovind is a Norwegian designer and artist operating out of Oslo. Working primarily with native timber, Hovind creates sculptural furniture and functional objects that explore weight, surface texture, and geometric clarity. Her practice centers on reviving forgotten craft traditions—such as hand-turning and botanical plant-dyeing—adapting historical techniques into contemporary sculptural forms that celebrate raw material presence.
