Sculpted by Italian artist Duccio Maria Gambi, this unique piece belongs to the acclaimed L’Inverse series—an ongoing material study exploring mass, negative space, and artificial interventions on stone. The vessel is carved from a dense block of translucent white onyx, featuring an intensely pigmented teal casting that fills and binds to the mineral’s raw, fractured void.

By treating the stone’s unpolished fracture as a mold, Gambi inverts traditional lapidary practices. The result is a heavy, commanding object that pairs smooth, veined mineral surfaces with vivid, highly textured synthetic casting. Functioning as both a monumental art piece and a functional vase, this work stands as a definitive example of Gambi’s brutalist alchemy.

Formed between the legacy of Italian Radical Design and Milanese architectural practice, Florence-based artist Duccio Maria Gambi creates physical works at the intersection of raw construction, material alchemy, and fine art. His practice is defined by a fundamental curiosity toward media—testing the structural boundaries between geological stone, cast concrete, glass, metal, and synthetic resins. Operating out of his Florentine atelier, Gambi rejects decorative polish in favor of brutalist logic, allowing structural voids, unrefined fractures, and industrial casting processes to serve as primary narrative elements.

Each work presented by Pièce de Résistance is individually hand-crafted or produced in limited studio editions using raw, natural, or hand-worked materials—including wood, metal, resin, and ceramic.
