Part of Oslo-based designer Kathrine Hovind's Botanica series, this hand-turned object explores volume, organic mass, and traditional natural dyeing techniques. Hand-shaped from locally sourced wood using traditional turning methods, the piece is defined by a dished upper platform set atop a heavy cylindrical base.

Instead of industrial stains or synthetic chemicals, the deep tint is derived entirely from natural plant and bark dyes—adapting historical textile-dyeing practices directly to wood. The natural pigment sinks into the grain, bringing out warm, rich tones that reflect its forest origins. Serving as a tabletop catch-all, centerpiece riser, or standalone sculpture, each piece carries distinct marks from the tree and the hand-turning process.

Artist

Kathrine Hovind is a Norwegian designer and artist operating out of Oslo. Working primarily with native timber, Hovind creates sculptural furniture and functional objects that explore weight, surface texture, and geometric clarity. Her practice centers on reviving forgotten craft traditions—such as hand-turning and botanical plant-dyeing—adapting historical techniques into contemporary sculptural forms that celebrate raw material presence.

Return Policy

In accordance with EU Directive 2011/83/EU, private European consumers (B2C) have a mandatory 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of delivery to return their purchase for a full refund, provided the item is shipped back fully insured in its original condition at the buyer's expense. All Business-to-Business (B2B) transactions and orders shipped outside the European Union are strictly Final Sale and non-refundable. In the event of transit damage, clients must contact the gallery within 48 hours of receipt with full photographic documentation to process an insurance claim.

Material Variations & Handcrafted Character

Each work presented by Pièce de Résistance is individually hand-crafted or produced in limited studio editions using raw, natural, or hand-worked materials—including wood, metal, resin, and ceramic. Due to the artisanal methodology and organic nature of these materials, subtle variations in texture, grain, tone, patination, and minor dimensional nuances are inherent to the process. Imagery and gallery display pieces (including Artist Proofs) serve as accurate references, but final pieces may display unique, natural distinctions. These variations are essential to the artistic integrity of collectible design and do not constitute defects.

Limitation of Liability

Neither Pièce de Résistance nor its represented designers and artists shall be held liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the handling, installation, use, or placement of any object. The gallery and its designers assume no liability for damage, wear, or alteration occurring after final delivery and client acceptance, including damage resulting from improper installation, environmental exposure, or normal wear and tear.
