Short Stop #2 by Luke Malaney occupies space with a quiet, sculptural tension. Constructed from a interplay of ash, pine, and cherry, the work balances a grounded timber pedestal against a sweeping cantilevered crest, allowing raw material character and soft washes of pigment to dictate its visual weight. The composition draws its strength from contrast—the varying densities of domestic woods, the rhythm of natural grain, and delicate structural joinery that anchors the form.

Malaney’s approach treats wood as an evolving medium, where subtle shifts in surface and tone are embraced rather than concealed. Suspended between structural craft and pure abstraction, the piece exists outside of strict utility, holding a singular presence as an architectural object.

Artist

Luke Malaney operates at the intersection of fine art, studio craft, and experimental furniture design. Formally trained in classical joinery under a Roman master woodworker, Malaney channels historical techniques into intuitive, hand-built forms. Working independently from his Brooklyn studio, his practice is driven by raw, domestic hardwoods, pine, and raw metals, elevated through torching, hand-applied dyes, and painting. Drawing influence from vernacular architecture, skateboarding culture, and modern abstract painting, Malaney crafts unique, one-off objects defined by unexpected proportions and physical presence.

Return Policy

All sales are final. Due to the unique nature of gallery acquisitions, limited editions, and bespoke productions, we do not accept returns, refunds, or cancellations once an order or deposit is confirmed. Transit & Condition Claims: Every piece is inspected and documented prior to release. Transports are conducted via specialized white-glove art logistics. The recipient must inspect the shipment upon delivery in the presence of the carrier. Any claim regarding transit damage must be noted on the delivery receipt and submitted to info@piecederesistance.com within 24 hours with high-resolution photographs of the damage and packaging. Failure to report within this window constitutes full acceptance of the piece in its delivered state.

Each work presented by Pièce de Résistance is individually hand-crafted or produced in limited studio editions using raw, natural, or hand-worked materials—including wood, metal, resin, and ceramic. Due to the artisanal methodology and organic nature of these materials, subtle variations in texture, grain, tone, patination, and minor dimensional nuances are inherent to the process. Imagery and gallery display pieces (including Artist Proofs) serve as accurate references, but final pieces may display unique, natural distinctions. These variations are essential to the artistic integrity of collectible design and do not constitute defects.

Limitation of Liability

Neither Pièce de Résistance nor its represented designers and artists shall be held liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the handling, installation, use, or placement of any object. The gallery and its designers assume no liability for damage, wear, or alteration occurring after final delivery and client acceptance, including damage resulting from improper installation, environmental exposure, or normal wear and tear.
